The Hospital Revitalization Company

How we saved the Rockdale Hospital

Before Little River Healthcare, Richards Memorial Hospital was on the brink of having its doors closed for good. Under poor management by a now failed healthcare company, the hospital’s revenue was plummeting in the midst of poor healthcare quality, disorganization, disgruntled patients, and bizarre firings of the hospital’s best providers in the most profitable departments. Just days away from closing its doors, Richards Memorial Hospital was given a second chance when Little River Healthcare stepped in to save the hospital from its otherwise imminent demise. Cleaning up the mess left by the previous management company was no easy task, but Little River was more than successful in its efforts through a “back to the basics” approach – doing the things that made the hospital successful in years past. The talented physicians who were previously fired were rehired, along with most employees. The business model was restructured and large outstanding debts were paid, bringing the hospital’s bottom line into the black for the first time in years. But Little River Healthcare didn’t just dig the hospital out of the hole it was in; the hospital continues to grow and has undergone multiple renovations and expansions. In 2014, the Little River Healthcare Rockdale Hospital received the Texas Hospital Quality Improvement Gold Award – an honor shared with no other rural hospitals in Central Texas.

How we saved the Cameron Hospital

The history of what is now Little River Healthcare – Cameron Hospital is dotted with numerous owners, name changes, scandals, and closures – but that all changed when Little River Healthcare took over in October of 2013. Prior to Little River’s acquisition of the hospital, the facility had been owned by Dr. Tariq Mahmood, who was later found guilty of Medicare and Medicaid fraud. The facility was in shambles, but as soon as Little River took over, a massive $2.5 million renovation began, restoring the facility to better-than-new condition. After the overhaul, the hospital earned licensing from the State of Texas and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, in addition to accreditation by Det Norske Veritas in July of 2014. Today, the 44,000 square-foot hospital staffs 40 healthcare professionals, a state-of-the-art 24/7/365 Emergency Department, and houses 10 patient beds and auxiliary facilities, including diagnostic, laboratory, treatment, surgical, and therapy services.
